ClaraLink
Medical ASL translation device for deaf/hard of hearing patients in emergency situations
Focus Areas

Problem & Value Proposition: We are ClaraLink, and we are solving the miscommunication between doctors and deaf/hard of hearing patients in emergency situations where interpreters will not always be available. We are building a stand-alone device that uses computer vision to translate medical ASL into text as well as speech to text.
Regenerative Approach: Our approach helps patients communicate in hospitals as well as helps hospitals avoid ADA fines. By helping the deaf or hard of hearing community enjoy the same service as other patients, we enhance social sustainability and equity.
Startup Journey: We are currently working on the hardware design and software building stage, mainly in the prototyping stage.
How the Team Came Together: Our team wanted to do solar share at first, but some law issues made it hard for us to continue this idea. We found out about the deaf and hard of hearing community and interviewed a few of them. We got a lot of responses about the issue in medical situations where interpreters aren't available. So we turned our focus into the medical field, especially emergency situations.
